Glengoyne is love. It belongs to the category of whiskies that during the first tasting experience the whisky enthusiast becomes infatuated, with Glengoyne earning a place both in his heart and on his shelf. Glengoyne is a magnificent distillery built in Dumgoyne in a picturesque scenery surrounded by dense forests and hills that in the early 19th century provided natural cover to at least 18 illicit stills. It is one of the most easily reached distilleries in Scotland, located only a short 20 minute drive from Glasgow.

10 Facts that you probably don't know about Glengoyne Whisky

1) Glengoyne is often referred to as the "The most beautiful distillery in Scotland".

2) The provision of the water from its production comes from the Carron Valley. The water and barley that the distillery uses are unpeated, something rare for a Scotch whisky where one can usually detect the presence of peat. That is why the slogan of Glengoyne Distillery is "The authentic taste of malt whisky untainted by peat smoke".

3) The Distillery was founded in 1833 from George Connell and has not stopped working ever since until today.

4) What makes Glengoyne Distillery unique is the fact that production and maturity of Glengoyne whisky takes place in separate locations! In particular since the Distillery is located on the Highland Line, the division between the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands, Glengoyne's still room ( hosts one wash still and two spirit stills ) is in the Highlands, while it's warehouses rest across the road in the Lowlands.

5) Glengoyne uses a high proportion of sherry butts for maturing its whisky but the portion varies from expression to expression. For example, Glengoyne 18 Year Old is made up of 35% 1st Fill European Oak Sherry Casks, 15% 1st Fill American Oak Sherry Cask, 50% Hand-selected quality Oak Refill casks. Whereas the 21 Year Old is 100% Sherry Casks -
predominantly 1st Fill European Oak.
Sherry butts in combination with the absense of peat gives Glengoyne's Single Malt Whisky it's unique character.
