The Lowlands is separated from the Highlands with an imaginary line running from Greenock on the west coast up to Dundee in the east. Most malts produced in this region result in blended whiskey but there are still a few remaining distilleries producing some remarkable single malts.

The fertile land of Lowlands is suitable for the cultivation of barley for whisky. The tranquil landscape mirrored in single malts which tend to be lighter in both colour and body than those from the Highlands.

Only three distilleries remain in operation in the region, Auchentoshan, the Bladnoch and Glenkinchie, In addition the new distillery of Daftmill is expecting to release its first range of single malts very soon
