Aged in European, American, and New American oak to carefully release the virgin cask flavours, the whisky is then mellowed in our unique Solera vat before being married in Portuguese oak tuns.
The initial dominant scent of honey makes it somewhat difficult to detect more aromas. Butterscotch and smooth vanilla scents are followed by a soft touch of coconut
Balvenie 17 Sherry Oak evolves through relatively low levels of alcohol (43%) since the aromas are quite open and are not absorbed in the high alcohol levels of the cask strength whiskies. Additionally, the taste and feel left in the palate and at the finish is exactly what a demanding whisky lover is looking for.
The revival of a forgotten taste, this whisky is inspired from the time when coal shortages meant local peat was used to dry the malted barley. Caoran is the Gaelic for 'peat ember' and is pronounced 'Ku-ran'.
Only natural ingredients are used - malted barley, yeast and crystal clear spring water from the Cardnach spring, which lies in the hills above the distillery.
